Stargazers

a postcard published with support of the Scottish Arts Council, 2007

After the storm

in quiet corners

speckled heavens

girded in tub soil

break ground

clinging to sodden light

trusting a reach

into cooling air

like hummingbirds

necking for fuschsia

to sip cloud-burst drips

to sense high summer air

holding skyscrapes

grazing daybreaks.
