Cauliflower
Cauliflower
Kingdom: Plantae Division:Magnoliophyta Class: Magnoliopsida Order: Capparales Family: Cruciferae Genus: Sparassis |
This terminal mass of greatly thickened and partially developed flower heads, cluster together to form a firm, succulent curd perfect for soups on cold rainy nights. A steaming bowl of the creamed variety, cupped in two hands, can smell like heaven and warms the soul to its core. Left overnight and uncovered, a thick viscous odour can permeate from kitchen to house and clothes – a smell you can only disengage with plenty of airing. We always knew it was cauliflower season from the smell left over from the strongly colourful pee which emanates a vascular viscosity. We preferred broccoli over cauliflowers any day in my household. |
